Sleds

The facility has two sleds available for testing: a Seattle Safety servo-controlled acceleration sled and a Messring HydroBrake deceleration sled.

Acceleration sled

PMG has manufactured numerous sled accessories including specialized benches, automotive bucks, and individual seat structures, all of which can be made available to our clients.

The acceleration sled can be programmed to reproduce a large range of acceleration pulses. Characteristics are as follows:

Nominal Force2000 KN (450,000 lbf)
Stroke2000 mm (79 in)
Maximum Velocity80 km/h (49 mph)
Maximum AccelerationUp to 90 g
Maximum Payload3000 kg (6600 lb)
Peak Energy678,000 N-m (500,000 lbf-ft)
Dimensions of the sled bed3.5 m L x 1.5 m W (138" L x 59" W)

Deceleration sled

The deceleration sled is a programmable braking system which simulates deceleration pulses using four servo-hydraulic controlled valves. Its characteristics are as follows:

Nominal Force2000 KN(450,000 lbf)
Maximum Deceleration Distance1800 mm (70.8 in)
Maximum Velocity80 km/h (50 mph)
Maximum Acceleration110 g
Maximum Payload3000 kg (6600 lb)
Peak Energy678,000 N-m(500,000 lbf-ft)
Dimensions of the sled bed2.8 m L x 1.8 m W(110" L x 71" W)
