PMG Technologies Celebrates 30 Years of Advancing Road Safety
Blainville – This year marks an important milestone for PMG Technologies as we celebrate 30 years of advancing vehicle safety and supporting safer roads across Canada and beyond.
Since 1996, PMG Technologies has proudly managed Transport Canada’s Motor Vehicle Test Centre (MVTC). Over the past three decades, our team has helped shape the future of transportation through rigorous testing, cutting-edge research, and technical expertise.
While the automotive industry has evolved dramatically over the past 30 years—from conventional passenger vehicles to connected and automated vehicles—our mission has remained the same: to provide trusted testing that helps improve transportation safety.
Milestones That Defined Three Decades
1996 – A New Chapter Begins
PMG Technologies was selected to operate the Motor Vehicle Test Centre for Transport Canada, beginning what would become a long-standing relationship dedicated to advancing vehicle safety research, compliance testing, and innovation. Today, that relationship continues under a new 15-year agreement that reinforces Canada’s commitment to world-class vehicle testing.

2011 – Expanding Crash Testing Capabilities
One of the most significant milestones in our history was marked by the expansion and modernization of the Collision Centre. Completed in 2011, the project introduced advanced propulsion systems and new testing infrastructure that enabled vehicle-to-vehicle frontal, side-impact, and rollover crash testing—making the facility one of the most advanced automotive safety research centres in North America.
These new capabilities strengthened Transport Canada’s research programs while expanding PMG Technologies’ ability to support manufacturers in developing safer vehicles for the global market.

2012 – International Recognition
Following the Collision Centre expansion, the Motor Vehicle Test Centre was recognized as Crash Test Facility of the Year by Automotive Testing Technology International.
The award acknowledged the facility’s state-of-the-art capabilities and recognized the expertise and dedication of the PMG Technologies team, which continues to operate one of the world’s leading vehicle safety testing facilities.

2020 – Mike: An Intelligent Intersection
PMG Technologies enhanced its testing capabilities with the construction of an Intelligent Intersection that replicates the complexity of real-world Canadian roadways. The four-way signalized intersection features approaches representing the traffic signalization standards seen in different Canadian provinces, with fully programmable traffic lights, custom signal phasing, and controllable street lighting. This flexible testing environment supports the development and validation of connected and automated vehicles, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and other emerging transportation technologies under realistic and repeatable conditions.

2026 – A New Era for Commercial Vehicle Testing
As transportation continues to evolve, PMG Technologies is preparing for the future with the opening of the new Commercial Vehicle Laboratory (CVL).
Designed to support the testing of heavy trucks, buses, electric commercial vehicles, and emerging transportation technologies, the laboratory significantly expands Canada’s ability to evaluate larger and more complex vehicles. This investment will allow PMG Technologies to keep driving safety forward for decades to come.

The Road Ahead
Today, PMG Technologies offers one of the most comprehensive collections of automotive testing capabilities in North America, including crash testing, environmental testing, structural testing, ADAS testing, connected and automated vehicle testing, military testing, and compliance testing.
Every project completed at our facilities contributes to a broader goal: Shaping a safer future for everyone on the road, and beyond.
As we celebrate this 30-year milestone, we extend our sincere gratitude to our employees, clients, industry partners, and Transport Canada for their continued trust and collaboration.
The achievements of the past three decades were made possible thanks to the expertise, dedication, and passion of our team. Together, we look forward to continuing our mission of advancing vehicle safety, supporting innovation, and helping shape the future of transportation for generations to come.
